Throughout this series, Dalí uses black for Tristan and blue for Isolde. Here we have no doubt that Tristan has brought Isolde to meet King Marc, who stands in glorious royal robes and awaits on the shore. A man-servant bows to care for his royal garb. Tristan has slain the great dragon, been healed by Isolde, and put her on a great ship and accompanied her to meet her betrothed, King Marc – but it’s too late. Tristan and Isolde have already begun a love affair.
