Joan Miró
Montroig
In this magnificent composition of geometric shapes, floating stars, and lyrical lines, we see the playfulness in which Miro's abstracted form made the traditional disappear. The abstracted figure appears unruly and fearsome. The creature is opened mouthed with a colorful tongue. A brilliant red eye glares back at you, and the beast's body is made up of Miro's signature starch black with a hit of brilliant blue and bright red highlight. Miró has also incorporated his signature blue half-moon and floating stars, which Miró celebrated in his well-known "Constellation Series" featuring astronomy. Montroig (4) is a vibrant and captivating work, but its impact takes on a new life of adventure and exploration when paired with the story behind its creation.
