The King of Spades imagery is rich in symbolism, typical of Dali's work. The King himself represents power, authority, and leadership, which is often the case in traditional playing card imagery. However, the surreal elements of the image add an additional layer of meaning. The King holds two scepters in his hands. Traditionally, a scepter represents authority and control. The King on top has fours as his eyes and sevens as his mouth. This can be interpreted in various ways, such as representing the four suits of playing cards, the four seasons, or the four elements (earth, air, fire, and water).
