The Jack of Spades is often known to be associated with ambition, cunning, and deceit. In traditional card games, the Jack of Spades may be a powerful card that can win the trick, but it can also be a dangerous card that may lead to losing the game if not played carefully. Salvador Dali's Jack of Spades depicts the playing card in a surreal and fantastical manner. Dalí has placed Jack with his head above water on top and below ground on the bottom. The head above water can be interpreted as a symbol of consciousness, clarity, and rationality, while the head below ground represents the unconscious, intuition, and instinct.
