Christ Taking Leave From His Mother - Durer

Christ Taking Leave From His Mother

Christ Taking Leave From His Mother - Durer

Durer captures Christ as he says goodbye to his mother for the very last time. Christ is about to embark on his final journey to Jerusalem, where he will be crucified. Despite the knowledge of his grim future as a martyr, Christ is calm and dignified. His mother Mary, overcome with sadness and grief, falls to the ground as she begs her son to stay. Her sadness is mirrored by her female attendants. They heart wrenching scene is completed with a finely articulated rural landscape and gothic castle in the distance.
