Zaza was born in the tiny village of Ozurgeti, near the border of the Republic of Georgia. After earning his Master’s degree from Tbilisi, Zaza set his sights on Moscow and later the popular tourist destination of Cyprus. Today, he lives in New York.
Painting with heavily layered impasto paint, Zaza’s work combines sophistication and whimsy, drawing on the influence of great 20th century figurative modernists from Picasso to Dubuffet and contemporary Outsider art. The result is both deeply personal and universal in its appeal.
Sophisticated art collectors recognize his unabashed freedom, and his unique and brave approach to painting.
